Wernick Buildings Provides New Place of Worship for Renewal Church

By Wernick Buildings Limited in Industry News

The congregation of Renewal Church, Chelmsley Wood, are passionate about reaching out to their local community. The church holds regular outreach events, hosts community groups and has Sunday services filled with music and discussion. Such a vibrant and dynamic church community requires a welcoming building to work from, but unfortunately the church’s existing building was beginning to show its age. The building was in poor condition and needed major repairs, restricting the activities and events that could be held there, meaning Renewal needed a new building, and quickly.

Bradley Greensmith, who co-ordinated the project on behalf of Renewal, told us; “the old building had reached the end of its life. The facilities were poor; it just couldn’t meet the demands of a vibrant and modern day church.”

The church wanted a striking and modern looking building that could house social areas like a coffee shop and crèche. The building needed to be cost effective to run – and had to meet the requirements of a young, diverse congregation with families. After considering the options for construction a modular building was chosen thanks to the speed of its construction– which can be up to 50% faster than a traditional building.

Renewal choose Wernick Buildings thanks to their competitive costs, and the recommendation of previous happy clients. The Wernick team turned the project around in just 17 weeks from start to finish; including demolition of the existing building on the site. The new building was handed over ahead of schedule, fulfilling the need for a quick construction.

The completed building featured a café area with kitchen, a nursery/crèche area, toilets and a large main worship hall. The exterior was finished with a stylish cedar and render cladding, with a traditional looking brick skirt to give the building a contemporary look. The building’s main hall was complimented with roof lights that provided passive ventilation.

Renewal church are very happy with the finished building, with Bishop David Carr OBE commenting; “We are delighted with the building, it was complete, on budget and finished a month earlier than programmed – a fantastic result. The Wernick team had a can-do attitude, and worked well with our team on the project, that shows in the results, I’m sure this new building will reach out and impact lives within the community of Chelmsley Wood and bring people to Renewal Church for generations to come”
