PKL Set A New Standard For Rapid Rental Catering Solutions With First Lightweight Hall Installation In The UK
PKL has successfully delivered its first UK deployment of a lightweight hall facility, the next step in its mission to provide innovative temporary kitchen and dining rental solutions that offer rapid deployment and scalable flexibility. The project was commissioned by a national Facilities Management provider, underlining the trust industry leaders place in PKL’s expertise and our commitment to continuing to push technical boundaries in temporary catering rental solutions.
Requirement
Our client required a fully operational kitchen and dining facility, capable of accommodating large scale meal production and service, in an extremely tight timeframe – all within 3 weeks. The urgency and scale demanded a solution that could be quickly mobilised, installed, and handed over without compromising on performance or quality.
Solution
In just 3 weeks, PKL designed, delivered, installed, and commissioned a 15-unit kitchen and lightweight hall dining facility comprised of:
Lightweight Hall Facility
- 15m x 25m (375m²), seating 150 per sitting
- Capable of serving 500 people per meal in three sittings
- Linked directly to a 15-unit modular kitchen suite
- Built in scalable 5m increments for adaptability
- Delivered minimal on-site disruption due to offsite pre-build
Modular Kitchen Complex
- 15 interlinked modular units
- Full commercial production kitchens, cold rooms, dry storage, toilets
- GRP anti-slip flooring, timber steps, and compliant access features
- Connected via a 3-bay prefabricated corridor for efficient, hygienic flow
Fully Managed Rental Service
This was all delivered through a fully managed rental service which provided our client with a range of benefits:
- Operational flexibility: Our rental model allowed the client to scale requirements according to demand, without the commitment of long-term infrastructure. As the needs of the site evolve, the facility can be extended, reconfigured, or decommissioned, ensuring the space always aligns with operational requirements.
- Cost control: By removing the need for upfront capital investment, our rental model provided predictable monthly costs for effective budgeting. Enabling our client to allocate resources effectively while accessing premium facilities without the financial strain of asset ownership.
- Built-in maintenance support: As part of our fully managed rental service, PKL provided ongoing maintenance and technical support throughout the rental period. This will ensure uninterrupted operations, reduced downtime, and provide peace of mind that any issues will be promptly addressed by our specialist teams.
Innovation Built In
This deployment marks the launch of the first lightweight hall solution by PKL in the UK, a new product designed to transform how temporary dining and production spaces are delivered. With the ability to link seamlessly to modular kitchens by PKL and scale in 5m increments, lightweight halls offer unprecedented design flexibility.
They can house anything from a dining area to a full production kitchen, including fire suppression and extraction systems, while also supporting coldand dry storage, dishwashing, and plated service areas.
As yet another addition to the company’s rental fleet, it provides clients with all the benefits of speed and performance, without the upfront capital investment and hassle of managing complex logistics, design, and coordination of multiple suppliers. PKL handles every stage, from planning and design to installation and maintenance, allowing clients to focus on day-to-day operations with complete peace of mind.
Result
The client praised the speed and execution of the install, noting the ability of PKL to manage such a complex project with professionalism and precision. The success of the installation reflects the deep expertise within the project and engineering teams at PKL, and the quality of coordination from planning to handover.
The project also demonstrates the company’s capability to deliver high performance and fully managed rental facilities at pace. As the first UK deployment of our lightweight hall system, it sets a new benchmark for what is possible in temporary catering environments. Combining speed, scalability, and product innovation in one seamless rental solution.
Andy Mellon, Major Projects Director at PKL and the project’s lead from concept to completion, commented:
