Mulalley has been supporting the Construction Youth Trust and London Borough of Lambeth with their Construction Challenge

This month Mulalley has been supporting the Construction Youth Trust and London Borough of Lambeth with their Construction Challenge. Lambeth residents joined the month-long programme, getting stuck into a range of practical activities, site visits, employability sessions - and most importantly becoming work ready!

Following the success of the Lambeth Developers’ Challenge last year, generously funded by Lambeth Council, this year Construction Youth Trust set out to plan a programme which reached an even greater number of young people and involved even more Lambeth-based employers. The opportunity to network with employers and meet relatable industry role models can have an incredible impact on the career aspirations and work-confidence of young people.

Mulalley kicked off our challenge by giving an informative insight into industry careers with Cathal Geraghty from K10 explaining Flexi Apprenticeship Providers, our Senior Project Manager explaining the realities of managing a new build development and our bricklaying apprentice was also on hand to provide peer-to-peer experience of their early career journey. Mulalley supported several events including a “Meet the Apprentice” day, a site tour of our Fenwick South Estate development, provided free Health and Safety training and most recently we attended the celebration event which was held at County Hall on 12th September with a majority of the students in attendance.

The participants have been hugely enthusiastic about exploring their possible next steps and we look forward to working with them as they take their next steps into employment.

Mulalley New Build Managing Director John Moore said: “It has been our pleasure to support this year's Construction Challenge with the Construction Youth Trust. Mulalley understands the importance of inspiring young people about careers in construction and securing a skilled workforce for the building sector for the future. We hope all the students who engaged with our teams these past two months enjoyed their time and feel inspired to start their journey on a career in construction.”

Mulalley is currently working on behalf of Transport For London on the Fenwick South Estate development, to provide 46 new affordable homes and the construction of a new community centre, with these events forming part of a collaborative social value plan with Lambeth and Transport for London.
