Wernick delivers new modular classrooms for Mynydd Cynffig Primary School

Wernick Buildings have successfully delivered and installed brand new, high quality modular classrooms at Mynydd Cynffig Primary School in Bridgend, South Wales, with completion work set to finish in time for the new term that begins in September.

As repair work for a burst pipe on the former school premises uncovered further damage that subsequently caused the building to close, the new modular classrooms will enable pupils to continue their education on site. 

As a result of the closure, Mynydd Cynffig School needed a quick and reliable resolution to ensure that on site teaching continued for pupils, and modular buildings proved to be the timely and cost-effective answer they were looking for.

Following this decision, Wernick secured the project through the South East & Mid Wales Collaborative Construction Framework (SEWSCAP) and within three months the classrooms had been designed, manufactured, and delivered to the site to be assembled. 

As the building process commenced, members of the Bridgend County Borough Council came to visit the site to see its progression. Impressed with the modular buildings, the councillors described the classrooms as an “excellent new learning environment.”

Councillor Dr. Charles Smith, Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration further stated: “Many will find the modular classrooms indistinguishable from conventional school buildings as they come complete with toilet facilities, energy-efficient windows and heating, effective insulation and more.”

Regarding the modular building process that took under three weeks to manufacture and only days to install, Councillor Dr. Charles Smith said that it demonstrates “a fast, effective solution that uses 21st century technology to remove the need for the pupils to put up with a wet and muddy building site.” 

With an expected lifespan of at least 60 years these modular classrooms provide a permanent, prompt, and practical solution which guarantees that pupils of Mynydd Cynffig Primary School no longer have to use temporary facilities to receive their education. The build also represents a £1.2m investment into the school.
