Wernick Supply Long Awaited Modular Hub for Windsor Mencap

Windsor Mencap finally has a home thanks to a new modular building from Wernick Buildings. 

The 6-bay Rapidplan® building, delivered and installed in just a couple of days, has been dubbed the Hub as it will serve the wider community as well as the charity. 

From the new Hub, the charity will operate services and club nights for people with learning disabilities who live in and around Windsor. The building is also available for private hire and community activities such as yoga classes.

Guest of honour Cllr. David Coppinger, Deputy Council Leader of Windsor and Maidenhead, formally opened the building during a fun-filled open day, aided by Town Crier Chris Brown.

The opening proved to be an emotional event for the charity who had waited for land to become available for four years. Members, their families and friends enjoyed an afternoon of games, crafts and a barbecue. Those who remembered the old building were bowled over by the space and facilities available.

The charity researched suppliers carefully – a modular building provided the solution to their limited time-frame and budget. A nearby school gave Wernick Buildings an enthusiastic review, commending how Wernick managed the client-supplier relationship from inception to completion.

Only a shell was required (i.e. no interior fixtures and fittings), so Wernick worked closely with contractors on site to complete the build. “The charity needed a supplier they were comfortable with – who could be flexible with the programme and the sequence of working,” remarked Nick Allen, Wernick Construction Project Manager.

“We saw the benefit of your flexibility”, commented Adrian Greensmith – Windsor Mencap chair. “We took inspiration from Cippenham Primary and Infants School who kindly showed us around a Wernick building where a bright and open feel was created using a sky-light. We were able to incorporate our own sky-light into the design of the Hub. Everyone is enjoying the huge, open space that the building provides.”

Adrian added: “I truly believe that we have delivered a facility of unrivalled quality for not just people with learning disabilities but also the wider community to use and we want to welcome all comers to engage in using this wonderful new space. I want us to take this opportunity to deliver new services and opportunities to the entire Windsor community."
