Hatrick of Installations on one site for Wernick Refurbished Buildings

The Crossrail project sees long time partners Network Rail and Carillion working together to improve rail services in the West of Britain.

Part of this ambitious endeavour sees Carillion improving the quality of railway tracks into Paddington. Based in North Kensington this multi-million pound, 5 year project will see lines renewed, along with important maintenance and improvement work undertaken on railway bridges in the area. A project of this scale requires a sizeable workforce on site 7 days a week, with up to 150 office staff and 300 site workers on site at any one time.

To adequately house all the workers on the site, Network Rail and Carillion looked to Wernick Refurbished Buildings to provide them with office space. The Refurbished Buildings team were approached based on the high standards of work shown on a previous project with Carillion.  This time round was no different, as Carillion’s Senior Office Manager Colin Hale told us; “Everyone was really impressed with the quality of the buildings provided, and with the way they fit into the compound.”

Wernick provided 28 bays of office space; creating room for open plan offices, meeting and induction rooms along with a canteen, drying room and shower and toilet facilities. This complex was designed not only to fulfil the needs of the workers operating from that location, but to blend in with the existing 40 office compound on the site. Working with Mr Hale, the Refurbished Buildings team delivered a block that fitted both the space of the site, and the purposes it was required for.

However, the project was of such a scale that Network Rail and Carillion soon found they were in need of even more space for the hundreds of operatives who were on-site daily. The Refurbished Buildings team returned to provide a further 10 modular bays to expand the office space, attaching these new bays to the existing building via a series of linking corridors.

When Carillion’s partner’s Alstom needed more space on their site, Wernick Refurbished Buildings were just a call away. Returning to the site for a third time, the team delivered a two storey modular building to house Alstom’s employees. The building featured office space, workshop storage, a canteen, drying room and toilet facilities. The lower floor was heated with electric wall heaters, while a heat/cool air conditioning system was installed on the upper floor. The two storeys were joined with external steel staircases.

Overall, Network Rail and Carillion were very pleased with the products provided by Wernick. “You always have a few hitches with these big projects”. Colin Hale told us; “But they were all sorted out speedily and professionally by Kate Webster and the Wernick Refurbished Buildings Team. I will be using Wernick’s services again in the future.”
