Vinci choose GreenSpace accommodation for green project
Vinci Environmental chose Wernick Hire GreenSpace site accommodation for their £141m contract to build an ‘energy from waste incinerator’ near St Austell, Cornwall. The units are providing accommodation for site offices, welfare amenities, toilets, drying rooms and canteen. Two gatehouses have also been supplied.
The flexibility of the AVflex came into its own when a second storey was required to be added to an existing seven bay set of units midway through construction. There was a challenge however as the main building structure was now in the area where the crane would need to be positioned for installation. This meant a 400 Ton Weldex crane had to be used to install the second storey.
Cornwall County Council selected French-owned Sita UK to run the waste management contract in 2006. After some delays Sita signed an engineering and construction contract with Vinci in 2013 and the project is due to be completed in April 2016. It’s expected the combined heat and power facility will generate 16.6 megawatts of electricity and divert 90% of the county’s residual waste away from landfill. The scheme is expected to provide electricity for 21,000 homes in the region.
Wernick Hire introduced GreenSpace suite of portable accommodation in 2012 with the aim to help companies save on running costs and reduce their carbon footprint. The units have been Energy Performance Asset Rated and are packed with a number of energy saving features.
