Women in Steel: Breaking Down Stereotypes & Challenging Gender Biases
BCSA Launches 'Women in Steel' Campaign to Highlight the Important Role of Women in the Steel Industry
In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of women joining the steel industry, taking on important roles and contributing to the sector's growth. Despite the progress made, however, there is still a significant amount of work to be done in breaking down stereotypes and challenging gender biases.
This year, the British Constructional Steelwork Association (BCSA) launched a campaign to highlight the important role that women play in the steel industry. The “Women in Steel” campaign aims to raise awareness of the opportunities that exist for women in this traditionally male-dominated sector, and to encourage more women to consider a career in steel.
As part of the campaign, the BCSA interviewed Jane Hardy, Lindapter’s Area Sales Manager. In the interview, Jane spoke about the passion she always had for science and that she never felt her gender was a barrier in understanding engineering.
Jane noted that there are still relatively few women working in steel, and that this can make it difficult for women to find role models and mentors. However, she also pointed out that there are many talented women in the industry, encouraging young girls to follow their passion and talents no matter the industry.
The Women in Steel campaign is an important reminder that gender equality is not just a matter of fairness – it is also essential for businesses to succeed. When women are given the opportunity to work in industries like steel, they bring valuable skills and perspectives that can help companies to innovate and grow.
Lindapter recognises the importance of having a diverse team with varying perspectives and experiences, which ultimately leads to innovation and success. Lindapter is proud to have Jane and all the other women as part of the team, and we value their contributions and unique perspectives. As a company, Lindapter strives to create an inclusive and supportive environment for all employees, regardless of their background or identity. We believe that a diverse workforce is essential for creating a positive and successful workplace culture.
