EBP help raise awareness for Heritage & Conservation project

Following an appeal for assistance by a fledgling community charity, EBP’s Commercial Director, Sam Brooke, donated some of his own time to working on a series of projects to help improve public awareness for a charitable cause aimed at restoring a piece of local heritage. A remnant of the Industrial Age, Slaithwaite millpond, as sited in the village of Slaithwaite in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire originally served the textile industry during The Industrial Revolution. During recent decades the millpond has become overgrown, vandalised by fly-tippers & silted-up in places.

Friends of Slaithwaite Millpond was formed by Keith Anderson, who founded the charity after realising that the old millpond and surrounding land was likely to be left to ruin if no one took action. Keith soon realised that the millpond has enormous potential and his vision to restore a key part of the local heritage could also encompass a nature reserve cared for by the community.  Friends of Slaithwaite Millpond formed an alliance with Calder Rivers Trust and formed a committee that includes local stakeholders who are engaged in the project, the local council has also offered support.

Although the millpond is not local to EBP, Sam Brooke is familiar with the area as somewhere he’s visited and lived close to before moving to the North West. Sam & EBP have helped the charity with graphic design & marketing, as well as developing & hosting the charity’s website & providing IT assistance.

After almost two years Friends of Slaithwaite has increased it’s public awareness and working towards it’s aims.
