Chester FC Community Trust is a charity organisation which delivers educational and inclusive sporting activities to residents. The Trust required a new ‘hub’ - a home to sports teams, clubs and local social groups.
Funding through The Football Foundation would cover the hub, a floodlit 3G artificial grass pitch, natural grass pitches and a Pavilion.
Priorities for the Trust included cost, speed and flexibility – in particular the potential to develop the building in the future.
The client’s research involved visiting ‘traditional’ and modular buildings in the area for similar projects.
They saw no difference in the quality or finish with the modular buildings they saw, which helped inform their decision.
Wernick Buildings supplied a modern and spacious one-storey building, with a hard-wearing interior and an attractive vinyl covered exterior.
Once manufactured at Wernick’s dedicated facility, the team craned the six modules into place to form the completed building. COVID-19 backlogs caused some delays on site - such as the connection of services. Difficulties which the Wernick team dealt with “with the right attitude, they kept us informed throughout.”
Each space within the building performs multiple functions for the charity; these include a large training room, a changing room, kitchen and an office. Hub users include the women’s team, walking and disabled football teams, and Chester FC’s 1st team who train and have lunch at the site.
Jim Green, Chester FC Community Trust CEO, commented: “This is a modern facility that is not just perfect for our needs – it has the wow factor! Modular allowed us to do everything that we wanted to do. Working with the Wernick team was brilliant, a really positive experience. Without hesitation I would recommend working with Wernick.”
