Change to Abnormal Load Restrictions by MET Police
The Metropolitan Police Service manages movement of Abnormal Loads in accordance with directions made by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO).
Current Metropolitan Police restrictions on Abnormal Load movements have been in place for over 30 years and a review of these restrictions has been carried out in consultation with stakeholders.
It was fairly conclusive that the current restrictions were not suitable and needed to be changed to reduce the impact on traffic flow in London.
Times have been adjusted to accommodate rush hour periods and new restrictions have been introduced for movements taking place on Sundays as well as bank holidays.
Restrictions on movements taking place on the M25 have been relaxed; however you are still advised to avoid travelling during peak hours.
The following restrictions will take place from July 1st 2014
Be aware that NO MOVEMENT of abnormal loads are permitted within the Metropolitan Police area between the following times;
Monday to Friday - 06:00 - 10:00 and 15:30 - 20:00 (Rush Hour)
Saturday & Sunday - 10:30 - 20:00
Additionally if any part of the route falls within 3 miles of Charing Cross Station or Any abnormal load movements which exceeds:
Length: 26mtrs (85`0”)
Width: 3.82mtrs (12`6”)
Weight: 100 Tons
are also NOT permitted to travel between the following times:
Monday to Friday - 06:00 - 20:00
Saturday & Sunday - 10:30 - 20:00
Bank holidays are to be treated as weekends.
M25 Movements
The Metropolitan Police are responsible for sections of the M25. We advise hauliers to ensure that Area 5 (Connect Plus Services) are notified correctly and avoid travelling during peak hours
