Café and Dining Facility Supplied to Springwood High School

Springwood is a 1900 pupil comprehensive High School with a sixth form located in Kings Lynn that provides an education for boys and girls aged between eleven and eighteen.

With pupil numbers growing yearly, particularly in the sixth form, Springwood required a catering facility that was bigger and that could accommodate these growing numbers.

The existing catering provision was expanded via the introduction of an additional service point, so more food could be served, however, they still needed a specific building with extra capacity to get to that next level for the sixth formers.

Springwood wanted a purpose-built facility that had better resources to produce, serve, and eat food, whilst being a modern and sleek space that sixth formers can utilise giving it a more college-like environment.

That’s where PKL came in.

PKL was contacted by Springwood back in October 2020 and supported the project all the way from concept to handover including supporting the planning and building control application process – the construction contract was awarded in June 2021, and despite worldwide construction material availability issues, PKL delivered to schedule only 180 days later.

PKL listened to exactly what the client wanted, and delivered an 18m x 12m café and dining facility complete with an 18m long glazed elevation over looking the sports pitches, with the remaining elevations clad with fire treated timber batons
