Nixon are proud to be taking part in Yorkshire Aid Convoy's latest mission!
In response to the current humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, many people are doing what they can to help, whether it’s by donating goods, delivering aid or other acts of support.
Nixon Hire are proud to be taking part in this latest Yorkshire Aid Convoy mission to help deliver much needed supplies to those in need.
Yorkshire Aid Convoy has been visiting Romania for over 20 years to provide aid to villages, orphanages, hospitals and refugee camps in need of support. In 2002, Yorkshire Aid Convoy was founded with the objective of collecting, transporting and distributing humanitarian aid exactly where it is needed throughout Romania and more recently Ukraine.
Our very own Chief Executive Officer, Graham Nixon has been involved in Yorkshire Aid convoy for a number of years, making journeys himself to provide aid to those that urgently need support.
For this mission Nixon Hire’s Group Logistics Manager, Graham Wood and Equipment Sales & Technical Support Manager Mike Haskayne are getting behind the wheel to personally make the journey to Ukraine in support of Yorkshire Aid Convoy.
Being a business that works regularly with large vehicle suppliers for the likes of our fitters vans, welfarevans and fleet transportation trucks we knew we were in a good position to be able to help with this cause.
To start, we reached out to our trusted vehicle suppliers asking if they would be happy to donate the use of any of their vehicles as part of this convoy and are delighted to have secured several trucks from the below sponsors:
Zenith, Allports Group, Mac Trucks, DAF Aid, North East Truck and Van, Isuzu UK, Crouch Recovery and Walker Movements.
What’s more, Zenith Vehicle Solutions have also agreed to cover any vehicle breakdowns throughout this journey.
When will the journey be taking place?
Trucks full of food and medical supplies are starting to gather in Leeds where this journey will be starting from. The 1,832 mile trip starts on Friday 18th March with a convoy of 16 drivers, 8 trucks and over 120 tons of aid.
To start the journey, the convoy will be setting off from Leeds and making its way to get the overnight ferry from Hull to Rotterdam. The convoy then goes on to drive to Belgium into Germany, heading south-east. After an overnight stay in Germany, the journey will continue into Austria, past Vienna and into Hungary.
There’ll be an overnight stay at the Ukrainian border and the next day we’ll be greeted by a Ukrainian MP and a member of the military administration to hand over our aid – this will then be distributed to hospital, military units and local charities.
To further help support this cause, we have set up a Go Fund Me page for anyone to donate to if they would like, with funds going directly to Yorkshire Aid Convoy: https://gofund.me/a92fab5c
I’m sure it would be greatly appreciated if anyone could donate to this much worthy cause.
