Glidevale Protect rolls out 100% recycled packaging

Building products manufacturer Glidevale Protect has introduced new packaging which is produced from 100 per cent recycled polymer and will be used across its production processes for the company’s entire membrane product range.

The new packaging is a mixture of both post-consumer and post-industrial waste plastic, which reduces the demand for virgin plastic and helps to divert plastic waste from landfill. The new packaging has been fully tested during trials at Glidevale Protect’s manufacturing facilities and has now been rolled out at both Pinxton and Merthyr Tydfil sites. All products within the manufacturer’s range of wall, floor and roofing membranes are now being packaged using this 100% recycled material.

John Mellor, Head of Marketing and Sustainability Lead at Glidevale Protect commented: “Our journey to implement 100 per cent recycled packaging across our product range was a result of a discussion with our main supplier of plastic bags, lay flat tubing and centre fold sheeting about the need to increase the amount of recycled content in the products they previously supplied to us. They were on board immediately and, after a collaborative effort, reached the 100 per cent recycled content mark, which represents a significant reduction in plastic waste, without compromising the effectiveness of the packaging.

“When it comes to sustainability, we don’t rest on our laurels and we understand that is it an ongoing commitment. Our Sustainability Board has set out a number of initiatives to help reduce our environmental impact across our business through continuous improvement and the introduction of 100% recycled plastic packaging is a great example of how working with our supply chain partners is helping us achieve our goals quicker.”

The move to using 100 percent recycled plastic packaging comes as part of Glidevale Protect’s drive to improve the environmental efficiency of its business operations. In recent years the company’s production facilities have introduced various measures including closed loop recycling which involves granulating waste ABS offcuts from its tile ventilation production line which are compounded, moulded, and recycled back into ventilation products through local supply chain partners.
