Avove was appointed by Severn Trent to deliver a two-year £32 million pipeline project that will boost water supplies for over 180,000 Severn Trent customers in the North Nottinghamshire area.

Work started in January 2024 and once completed, the new pipeline will provide the ability to transfer an additional 25 megalitres of water with a hydraulic capacity of up to 37 megalitres in the future.

Sunbelt Rentals was contracted as sole supplier to provide a wide range of equipment to six sites along the path of the pipeline with a key objective being reduction of carbon footprint.

Sunbelt’s 360 teams defined, designed and delivered the initial contract requirements and the project was then led, and expanded, by Avove’s dedicated Account Director.

Sustainably powered welfare, accommodation and portable office units were delivered along the route, and we have continued to support the client as the project gathers momentum.

The Challenge

Avove’s brief was to create the most carbon friendly solutions that were accessible to all. This meant looking at all potential power sources as well as other options for recycling water for use on each of the sites. Rainwater captures were delivered, and plumbers fitted extra outlets to enable the reuse of dish water.

Off-site set up of economical towable welfare units and solar CCTV also needed to be set up at locations along the 16km route.

Following the successful initial set up the client requested a fencing solution for added security at critical points.

The expert team at Sunbelt Rentals have played a pivotal role in a productive and successful start to our North Nottinghamshire pipeline project for Severn Trent. Their innovative and sustainable solutions significantly lowered our carbon footprint, with a 55% reduction in engine hours and fuel costs. From welfare units to energy-saving dehumidifiers, rainwater collection points and solar-powered CCTV, their commitment to sustainability matched our own goals. The onsite project management by Brian Miller and Warren Catterall has been seamless, allowing us to focus on delivering essential new water supplies to over 180,000 Severn Trent customers.

The Solution

With sustainability always front of mind during this project the Sunbelt Rentals teams worked hard to design and deliver as many energy saving and environmentally friendly solutions as possible.

Sunbelt Rentals provided welfare facilities, a drying room powered by dehumidifiers, a modular building with accessible features, a meeting room and a viewing gallery with TVs and Wi-Fi. A battery storage unit (BSU) and generator was set up to further lower the
carbon footprint. A-class cabins with rainwater collection points, additional plumbing points to recycle dish water and solar panel CCTV were also provided.

As sole supplier to the entire project Sunbelt Rentals also installed green mesh fencing at critical points on the 16km route.

Onsite project management by Sunbelt’s Account Director has meant that Avove can concentrate on delivering this important contract for its client Severn Trent.

The Result

Between March and July 2024, the solutions provided by Sunbelt Rentals have reduced engine hours and fuel costs by 55%. This equates to almost £19,000 in fuel savings and 35,449kg of Co2 savings, which is the carbon equivalent of making 567,184 cups of tea!

Sunbelt Rentals equipment and services enabled the client to quickly get to work and, despite very challenging weather conditions throughout 2024, the project is running ahead of schedule.

Breakdowns have been at a minimum throughout the duration of the contract to date and dealt with in a timely fashion further strengthening the client relationship and leading to additional solutions, such as green mesh fencing, being requested and supplied.

We’re incredibly proud to be supporting Avove in delivering such a vital project for Severn Trent. Sustainability is at the core of our approach and through a combination of energy-efficient equipment and innovative solutions we’ve achieved real savings and set benchmarks for future projects. It’s been a pleasure working closely with Avove, ensuring they have everything they need to focus on the task in hand, while also significantly reducing the environmental impact.
