Highly Commended in the Building Better Healthcare Awards 2023
The new Royal Eye Hospital in Derriford built by MTX for University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust has been highly commended in the Building Better Healthcare Awards category for Best Modular/Mobile Healthcare Facility.
MTX also sponsored the Grand Prix Award, awarded by the judges to the ‘best of the best’ across all eight building design categories. It was won by Medical Architecture/Scott Tallon Walker Architects for the National Forensic Mental Health Service Hospital in Portrane Demesne, Ireland, which was awarded Best International Healthcare Facility.
MTX Managing Director David Hartley, who attended the awards ceremony with the MTX team that completed the REI project, commented: “As specialists in healthcare construction, and specifically the use of Modern Methods of Construction, MTX has occupied a position at the cutting edge of building technology and innovation for the last 40 years. So, we’re excited to sponsor this prestigious award for a project considered the best representation of the next generation of healthcare facilities. And what better way to celebrate the 25-year anniversary of the Building Better Healthcare Awards?”.
The new three-storey REI in Plymouth is located off the main Derriford Hospital site. It brings together outpatient and surgical eye treatments previously provided within the main hospital and includes three operating theatres, an increased number of treatment rooms and an expanded area for young patients.
Development of the new Royal Eye Infirmary at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth was made possible through the innovative FLEX managed services project package developed by MTX.
