Algeco supports customers in North West with new Wigan buildings for hire site

Algeco, Europe’s leading modular and offsite building solutions brand, officially opened its new site on Makerfield Way in Wigan on Thursday 20th April

The mayor of Wigan, Councillor Marie Morgan and Jackie Maginnis, CEO of the MPBA (Modular and Portable Building Association),  along with other dignitaries, officially cut the ribbon during the Discovery Day, which was attended by a large number of Algeco customers from across the UK.

Councillor Marie Morgan, Mayor of Wigan, said: “I am delighted to welcome Algeco to the town and wish them well in their future endeavours. It is encouraging to see Algeco place sustainability at the heart of the new site both in terms of the products they offered and the range of biodiversity initiatives.”

The new Algeco site serves the North-West region of the UK with its wide range of temporary buildings and associated products for hire.

Highlights from the Discovery Day include a brand new solar-powered washrooms product from Algeco group company Advanté and a new range of Algeco generators for hire, including hybrid options, to help reduce carbon emissions.

Within the modular ‘village’ created for the Discovery Day were examples of Smart tech solutions, where customers saw demonstrations of how they deliver a 20-30% reduction in the energy consumption of an Algeco building.

Sustainability is a central theme of the Wigan site with it being a zero fossil fuels site. Photo-voltaic panels help power the on-site workshops and no fewer than eight EV chargers provide plentiful recharge points for customers, visitors and colleagues.

All mechanical handling equipment on site is electric-powered to minimise emissions – a considerable investment by the company.

Circularity, adaptability, and leasing are at the core of the Algeco approach and when customers and dignitaries toured the site, they discovered how modular hire perfectly exemplifies this approach

Algeco buildings for hire contribute to the circular economy because modules are re-used when they are returned to the company after being on hire to customers. The Algeco Wigan site refurbishes and re-uses these portable and modular buildings for use as temporary offices, welfare facilities, toilets, anti-vandal units, secure storage units, site accommodation and gatehouses, amongst many others.

Richard Dey, Area Director, North at Algeco, said: “We have a very knowledgeable and experienced team here at Wigan, who are determined to provide our customers with the best possible service. We’re continuing to strive to be an ethical and sustainable business, and to lead by example, and I believe that Wigan sets the benchmark for the industry.”

During the open day, Algeco announced a new social enterprises service for customers who want to extend their use of social enterprises, but don’t have the logistical resources to coordinate them at a project level. Flooring, signage, drinking water and period products can now all be provided by Social Enterprises managed by Algeco, to help customers increase their social responsibility contribution.

Biodiversity on the four-acre Wigan site is being addressed through a partnership with a sustainability specialist. This includes planting low-maintenance native vegetation, with visitors to the discovery day encouraged to get involved!

Algeco was supported with the Discovery Day by key supply chain partners, who were available to offer free advice on specialist services.
