New Urgent Treatment Centre takes shape at Clacton Hospital

By MTX Contracts Ltd in Industry News

Structural steel units used to create a new Urgent Treatment Centre are now installed at Clacton Hospital marking a significant milestone for the new facility being created by modern methods of construction specialist MTX Contracts Ltd for East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation

The units were factory-manufactured offsite while MTX demolished parts of the existing Urgent Treatment Centre to make way for the two-storey extension and prepare the site for the next stage in the construction process.

Plans for the new facility include nine consulting/examination rooms, a dedicated isolation room, three triage rooms, eye and plaster rooms, and a dedicated mental health consulting room. A prefabricated rooftop unit will enclose mechanical equipment serving the building, and ground and first floor walkways will link the new UTC into existing buildings to be refurbished.

The 51 precisely engineered steel structural modules were craned into position on site and made weatherproof ready for the pouring of concrete floors and mechanical and electrical fit out.

The ability to manage and deliver multiple work streams concurrently is a key element of the MTX approach to constructing new facilities for the NHS, and effectively shortens the time needed to deliver the project safer, greener and more cost effectively compared to traditional build processes.

The project is the latest phase in a multi-million-pound upgrade to ensure patients using Clacton Hospital receive high quality healthcare in state-of-the-art surroundings providing an improved experience in terms of both physical access to healthcare and the clinical environment.
