Moving the MMC industry forward with modular solutions
Premier Modular’s mission: to deliver sustainable, flexible building solutions.
We are driven by an insatiable desire for innovation to overcome the challenges faced by our clients, from planning constraints and driving improved sustainability to increasing circularity within the construction industry.
We are continuously improving our offering in terms of quality, return on investment and capital cost – but it’s our passion to be industry leaders that truly sets us apart. Here are just a few of our ‘firsts’ and five ways we are shaping the construction industry:
Premier Modular was the first offsite company to manufacture modules with hinged roof systems which provide enhanced natural light and space. This system is used across a variety of projects, but is crucial for learning environments such as schools, and was successfully utilised within the modular classrooms at Roundhay School’s primary campus
We were the first company to deliver the Department for Education’s Net Zero Pathfinder scheme through our sister company, Net Zero Buildings (NZB), for Treetops Free School. A carbon neutral building was delivered using a structural timber panel solution with enhanced insulation and photovoltaic (PV) solar panels to provide electricity.
Sustainability is at the centre of our operations. Our offering already maximises reusability and re-configurability to provide green building solutions, which we have enhanced through constant innovation. This has included the creation of reusable PV sledges on our rental buildings – increasing sustainability and circularity simultaneously.
Early adoption is critical to moving the construction industry forward, and seeking knowledge from across sectors is key to achieving this. We were an early adopter of lean manufacturing principles, inspired by the example of the automotive bus and coach manufacturers to drive improved quality, manufacturing speeds and return on investment for our clients. This lean approach is further emphasised through our move to precision manufacturing, which in turn drove us to commit to zero waste to landfill.
Research and development is also a key part of our ethos. We have developed a range of products to achieve a smooth delivery and installation experience for our clients, including the development of resusable and adjustable foundation sledges designed to support retail unit delivery, particularly in confined spaces. Modular buildings can provide huge benefits to retailers as an alternative and often cheaper method of expansion, or as a temporary solution until a more profitable site is found.
But that’s not all we do. Premier Modular also plays a role in the Modular and Portable Buildings Association (MBPA) to engage with industry innovation at the earliest stage and share knowledge. Our CEO, David Harris, sits on the Council that works on behalf of the whole industry to drive innovation and improvements. Our Design and Technical Manager, Richard Hook, is part of the Technical Committee and Health, Safety, Environment & Quality Manager, Warren Fothergill, sits on the Health and Safety Committee.
So, what’s next? We are determined to keep growing and improving our service. Our experienced design and R&D teams ensure not only that we exceed compliance with industry requirements, but that we are actively working on products and solutions that will continue to raise the bar.
This means keeping ESG front and centre of our operations, maintaining our certifications and passing on our knowledge to support others. For example, we will soon be rolling out a programme to our key supply chain partners that will enhance sustainable procurement throughout our business – in line with our belief that it is vital all aspects of the industry work together to achieve a net zero future.
