Thurston Group has delivered a £2.9million Ultrablast accommodation building for the CATS Gas Processing Terminal for BP in Billingham. Engineered to comply with specific blast and radiant heat design requirements, the project was completed ahead of schedule with zero safety incidents.

Comprising a canteen, office, welfare and meeting rooms, the Ultrablast accommodation building was completed against a tight delivery schedule. It met all specific requirements, and completing the official handover was the Thurston’s team and Andy Pearson, Project Manager at Wood Group.

Thurston’s is the largest manufacturer of Ultrablast resistant buildings in the UK and sets new, ground breaking standards for both safety and comfort. Our Ultrablast product is able to withstand a force of up to 1000 millibar over pressure for 100 milliseconds. This is the equivalent of exerting an 80-ton force.

The all steel Ultrablast range includes standalone cabins or larger blast resistant buildings, and can include anything from control rooms and offices to canteens, toilets and shower blocks. These buildings are available in a wide range of sizes or can be built to your own specifications.

These anti-blast buildings are specifically designed to maximise the safety of staff and fully comply with the stringent anti-blast regulations as specified by the global operatives and the American Society of Civil Engineers.

“I am delighted to say that Thurston’s has delivered a first class turnkey solution in the design, manufacture and installation of our New Accommodation Building (NAB) here at the CATS Terminal. Thurston’s stood out from their competitors. Committing to supply a building with a complex process safety design brief and also to a tight challenging schedule. Not only did they complete ahead of schedule, the project was delivered on budget and to the highest quality standards with zero safety incidents. The professionalism and commitment displayed from everyone at Thurston’s was evident throughout all phases of the project. Working as one team, this dedication and hard work from all involved was paramount to the success of the project.” – Andy Pearson, Project Manager at Wood Group
