Western Build - 40 Years of Building Excellence
We might be four decades old as a business, and growing fast every year, but the family ethos we’ve continued since Western Build began can still be seen in everything we do. In fact, our recipe for building success has as much to do with our people, their skill and our community as any other factor in the company’s history. Our simple ethos reveals how we go about our work to deliver for clients…
Western Build Culture: How We Work… Together
Whether you’re thinking of working for us or with us, we’re proud to explain the culture we use to make Western Build both a great employer and a positive part of the community. Those three simple standards we set for ourselves?
Family: We create a family atmosphere for Team Western Build.
The Western Build team includes quite a few close relatives, even across generations, and we’re privileged to be such a big part of their family. In fact, we extend that family atmosphere into our HQ with plenty of craic, our Christmas celebrations and even baking for special occasions from our in-house Mary Berry (Housing Manager Sarah!). Family-friendly policies like an early finish on Fridays, frequent Bank Holiday closures, extended December holidays and a week off in July all help make sure we continue to be entrusted by families with the next generation of talented colleagues.
Craftsmanship: We celebrate, and grow, talent in our business.
We work to show appreciation for established specialists like 25 year Window Department linchpin John McVeigh, who recently featured on our social media channels, and nurture the fledgling careers of new specialists too. Why? Because we’re always conscious that success is driven by knowledge and hands-on talent. We regularly support apprentices from Coalisland Training Services and South West College (many are still with the business!) and take part in local social value job schemes wherever we work.
Western Build actively rewards loyalty, with a large percentage of people still working in the business after 20 years and graduates. For example, our QS Orlagh joined as a graduate and has progressed through a number of promotions in a short number of years. We’re always delighted to see this happen.
Community: We play active part in our local area.
We don’t just support local clubs and societies like Craic Theatre, Brocagh Emmetts GFC and Na Doirí Óga Youth with sponsorship. In many cases you’ll find Western Build colleagues (including our founders) actively volunteering with these organisations too. In fact, it’s often joked that so many Western Build team members are involved in a local sporting team, including the five teams close to our HQ, that plenty of friendly rivalry and frequent requests for a club lottery or ticket sale are a feature of life at Western!
We also support a number of charities, such as local addiction support group Cuan Mhuire, throughout the year.
In the bigger picture, we see our environment as part of our community. That’s why we help clients to use our modular, offsite building capacity and sustainable building material options to reduce both environmental impact and disruption on-site. We also follow best practice, such as the ISO14001 Environmental Management System, in our operations and ‘think green’ from the resources we use to design standards and on-site processes.
