HRH Princess Anne Attends Official Opening of Wernick Refurbished Classroom

Her Royal Highness Princess Anne visited the new classroom at Riding for the Disabled Stratford-upon-Avon last week, helping them to officially open the facility; and to mark their 50th anniversary.

The charity chose Wernick Refurbished Buildings (WRB) to supply the building, which will serve as a multi-functioning space for volunteers and visitors.

A day at Riding for the Disabled in Compton Verney is an opportunity to meet new friends, have fun and enjoy the therapeutic benefits that horse riding can offer. The group is volunteer run and relies solely on voluntary help, fundraising and donations to deliver their services.

Unfortunately, during the winter months volunteers and visitors had nowhere to gather or to have a hot drink. Storage room was also limited so a versatile space was of paramount importance. The charity contacted WRB in May last year regarding their requirements. However, it was another year before they were awarded the necessary funding.

A REFURBISHED BUILDING SOLUTION

Once funding was in place, the team at WRB worked on reducing costs as much as possible by offering a refurbished modular building, changing the type of installation to negate the need for crane hire and working with the transporters to reduce the transport and siting costs.

The building was deftly installed around an existing cabin which only just allowed enough room to manoeuvre, causing Riding for the Disabled Group Organiser Donna Jenkins to describe the process as “heart stopping”. Donna documented the day for the groups website: photos can be seen here. Once installed, the building gained a new wheelchair lift, which was purchased thanks to a grant from the Wesleyan Foundation.

Donna worked closely with Lynda Robinson Regional Sales Manager for WRB during the whole process. She wrote to Lynda to say: “Credit is due to your company for the way our business has been handled and the support that you personally have given me. From our initial discussions with you through to the efficient processing of our order – we have been very impressed with the service we have received.”

It was a humbling experience all round, with Lynda adding: “Ive enjoyed every minute of working with Donna and visiting the centre. The sheer determination of the riders and volunteers is enough to move you to tears. The team at the Wernick factory have noticed how close this project has been to my heart and theyve really given it their best work.”
