Technical Committee
The MPBA Technical Committee exists to ensure that members have access to accurate technical guidance and representation on all matters relating to building regulations, standards, compliance, safety, sustainability and product performance.
The committee develops industry guidance, represents the sector to regulatory bodies and provides technical leadership to support best practice across the board.
What the Technical Committee Does
- Regulatory compliance and guidance: They translate complex legislative changes and building codes into precise, actionable guidance for members, ensuring that all offsite and volumetric manufacturing meets statutory requirements.
- Industry standards development: Committees frequently collaborate with national authorities (such as the ASFP, BSI and MHCLG in the UK) to establish common standards for fire safety, structural integrity, and sustainability.
- Net zero and sustainability: With the industry pushing toward whole-life carbon neutrality, technical committees lead initiatives like the “Roadmap to Net Zero”, helping members adapt to circular economy principles and modern methods of construction.
- Representation and lobbying: They act as the single collective technical voice for the sector, liaising directly with government bodies, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), and local authorities to protect the industry from unfavourable regulations.
Core committee objectives
- Protect: Review proposed legislative and regulatory changes, assess their impact on members’ businesses and develop a collective response.
- Defend the commercial and operational interests of modular builders against poorly considered construction policies.
- Educate: Provide regular updates, technical papers, and training seminars to keep member companies at the forefront of changes.
- Innovate: Promote to continuously improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of portable and volumetric buildings.
