6 Double Classrooms in 6 weeks for Lon Las School
YGG Lon Las Primary is in the midst of a transformation. The old school building has been demolished, and work has begun to build a brand new primary school.
To house students and staff while work is underway temporary classrooms were needed. Jessica Crees, new manager at Wernick Hire’s Neath depot, was tasked with providing the classrooms as her very first modular project. She told us “It was a massive project for me, and my first with a temporary modular building. It was really high profile for us, as it was so local, and featured one of our best clients.” Wernick Hire was chosen for the job due to their competitive prices; and with Neath Hire Depot only a few miles away, the units didn’t have very far to travel before arriving at the school.
Jess and her team provided 6 double classroom units with toilets. These were delivered as individual modules, and were linked together with corridors and double doors to create two long classroom blocks.
The installation of the units presented Jess with a number of challenges; “We needed a really speedy installation so the classrooms could be ready for pupils returning from the Christmas Break. We were also presented with fairly steep access roads, and a 90 degree turn at the top of a slope near the school. It was challenging, but with a careful planning, and some very skilled driving from our transport team we managed it.”
In all, from enquiry to handing over the keys, the building took 6 weeks to complete.
Neil Cunningham, Building Supervisor at Lon Las School told us; “The installation team were very helpful and professional. When the client asked for extras, such as finger guards for the doors, the Wernick team was quick to supply them, meaning the classrooms could be occupied sooner rather than later. All the staff seem really happy with the classrooms.”
