Redefining crane technology with the introduction of the CTL702-32
Select, a Laing O’Rourke company, has purchased three CTL702-32 cranes from Terex, marking a major step forward in crane technology and operational safety.
The development of the 32-tonne capacity crane, with an extended 70 metre jib is the result of years of close collaboration between Select and Terex. Select played a key role in providing input during the development of the CTL702-32, suggesting innovations to enhance safety, efficiency, and performance. Safety considerations were engineered into the crane’s design from the outset, with a particular focus on enhancing joint connections. The crane’s safety enhancements include:
- removing high-risk components such as keeper plates and loose pins to reduce the risk of falling objects.
- Optimising pinned connections to enhance security while minimising manual handling risks.
- A 1500kg maintenance derrick, lighter components, and a split A-frame which all improve assembly, dismantling, and maintenance efficiency.
- Meshed handrails and underfloor cable trays to eliminate trip hazards and ensure a safer working environment.
Its simplified erection process eliminates the need for a mobile counterweight and uses innovative joint connections, reducing setup time and complexity.
Performance is further enhanced by Terex’s T-Torque system, which improves luffing speed and slewing control while maintaining high hoisting speeds with lower power consumption. Built-in zoning also removes the need for costly anti-collision systems in single-crane applications.
