Everyman Theatre
There are so many things that make the Everyman Open Air Theatre Festival so special it’s hard to focus on just one. Their longevity is certainly a factor; the Festival has been running every year since 1983. The way they make the theatre accessible to everyone should also be applauded. Originally only performing Shakespeare’s plays, the festival’s repertoire has grown to include musicals, comedies and shows aimed at children.
This would all amount to nothing though, without the commitment of the organisers and performers. The show has had to relocate three times, moving from Duffryn Gardens to St Fagans and from there to Sophia Gardens in the heart of Cardiff. Despite this, organiser Derek Bateman told us “We’ve only ever had to cancel one show, and that was because of lightning.”
To be able to deliver the festival so consistently, the organisers know that they need high quality equipment, and for the past nine years have been coming to Wernick Events for one of the most important parts of any outdoor theatre production: the seating.
By choosing a covered grandstand from Wernick Events, the show can withstand most weather conditions, while other similar festivals have been rained off. Audience comfort is further improved by the inclusion of cushioning, which doubtlessly proves particularly useful during Shakespeare’s longer plays.
With no signs of slowing down, are Everyman going to stick with Wernick Events in the future? “Over the years we’ve built an excellent relationship with the Wernick Events team, and I’d recommend them to any event organiser,” said Derek. We look forward to next year’s festival, marking the tenth year that Wernick and Everyman have worked together.
