Britain’s biggest car manufacturer installs a modular first with the help of Portakabin
Modular expert Portakabin has designed, manufactured and installed a Security and Emergency Operations building for Jaguar Land Rover.
Jaguar Land Rover required a Security and Emergency Operations building capable of despatching emergency vehicles capable of reaching any point on its Engine Manufacturing Centre (EMC) site within four minutes. Portakabin won the contract thanks to its ability to deliver a turnkey building within eight months for Jaguar Land Rover at the EMC in Wolverhampton.
The building, manufactured in its entirety offsite at the Portakabin factory in York, contains offices for onsite security as well as a double height, modular hall for Jaguar Land Rover’s own ambulance and fire vehicles.
With up to 6.85m clear internal height, the modular hall is the latest innovation from market leader Portakabin, offering a decrease in risk for projects dependant on tight timeframes as it is completely manufactured offsite in factory-controlled conditions. Almost 500m2 of space has been installed with zero impact to on-going production and operations, something that would not have been available from a traditional contractor and an element of the project delivery phase that Jaguar Land Rover simply weren’t able to compromise on.
By completely manufacturing the building offsite, Portakabin were able to deliver and install onsite in four days.
Eight double-height modules provide a secure and enclosed space for emergency service vehicles and enables access via a hard standing turning circle area. A further seven modules create the space for specialist staff to work offering Jaguar Land Rover improved response capability for the rapidly growing plant.
Containing specialist equipment, crew and vehicles, the Security and Emergency Operations building offers a command and control centre for any incidents across the state-of-the-art Engine Manufacturing Centre site.
