Thurston Building Systems today unveiled the first product from its new 'Ultra' range at its Horbury factory. The 'Ultraguard' is part of a range that Thurston will be producing after securing a deal to purchase the assets and intellectual property of rival company Ultra Secure Products Limited (in administration) in August this year.

The 24-foot Ultraguard unit has been manufactured for Elliott Hire, one of the UK's leading hire companies. Ultraguard is an anti-vandal range of products for construction sites; units can be for various purposes, including offices, canteens, drying rooms, store and toilets.

Jonathan Petch, Chief Executive of Thurston Building Systems, said:

"Since acquiring Ultra earlier this year we've been working hard to integrate the new product into our production schedule as quickly as possible. The Ultra range opens up new markets for us, particularly in construction and hire, and we are now also able to produce a tested and market-ready blast resistant building, which will enable us to supply petro chemical and manufacturing clients."

As well as anti-vandal units and blast-proof buildings, Thurston are producing the 'Ultra Ballistic', which is designed for MOD-driven work at sites in the UK, Afghanistan and Iraq.

Thurston will continue to manufacture its existing product – the Ultra range will be marketed as a complementary brand alongside its established portfolio. It is manufacturing Ultra products at its plants in Wakefield and Birkenhead.

Before it went into administration Ultra was located at Gilberdyke, near Hull, and manufactured steel cabins and modular buildings.

Thurston Group Limited was founded in 1970 under the original name of BTH Tools (Leeds) Ltd, when the main focus of the company was manufacturing and supplying trailers and spares.

In 1981 the company entered into the design, manufacture and marketing of pre-fabricated, anti-vandal and portable steel buildings, specifically for use in the construction industry. Following heavy investment in computerised design and manufacturing technology, the company attained ISO9001 Quality Assurance Accreditation in 1991.

Consistent investment, innovation and product development has allowed the Company to grow and, in 1993, Thurston established three distinctive trading operations. Thurston Building Systems now stands at the forefront of steel building manufacturing technology, delivering excellence in product and performance as expected by its customers.

The HQ is based in Wakefield but continued growth and expansion has led to further development of the Birkenhead operation. Thurston Building Systems now employs a workforce of over 200 people with an annual turnover of circa £30m.
